Esotropia or convergent squint is a condition where the eye deviates inward towards the nose and can have many causes, but the most common ones are three:
First cause
Strabismus can result from a problem with the eye muscles, leading to the inward deviation of the eye instead of being straight. Surgery is the only treatment here, involving the adjustment of one or both eye muscles to correct the eye's position.
Let's watch the next video showing a case before and after treatment, where Dr. Osama Abdel Hakim performed eye muscle surgery to fully correct the strabismus.
Second cause
Strabismus can result from farsightedness. In this case, the eye deviates inward during vision, especially when focusing on nearby objects due to farsightedness.
The only treatment here is for the patient to wear their prescribed glasses, which completely corrects the strabismus.
Unfortunately, the strabismus reappears once the glasses are removed. In this case, the person needs to wear glasses until the age of 18 when they can undergo corrective eye surgery to eliminate farsightedness, consequently eliminating this type of strabismus as well.
Let's watch the next video, where a case underwent a medical examination at Dr. Osama Abdel Hakim's clinics and the strabismus was treated simply by wearing prescription glasses.
These glasses are not for treating strabismus but for correcting farsightedness, which in turn treats the strabismus.
It is very important to note here that strabismus corrected with glasses cannot be corrected with surgery, and strabismus corrected with surgery cannot be corrected with glasses.
Third cause
Strabismus can result from weakness in some eye muscles and farsightedness in one eye. In this case, the treatment involves eye muscle surgery to correct part of the strabismus and prescription glasses to correct the remaining part.
Let's watch the next video, where Dr. Osama Abdel Hakim performed eye muscle surgery to correct part of the strabismus, followed by prescribing prescription glasses to correct the remaining part.
The most important thing in treating strabismus is not only the diagnosis but also intervening as soon as it appears. The earlier the intervention for strabismus treatment, the better the outcome.
